Brisbane Hinterlands Interesting Locations

A short distance form the hustle and bustle of Brisbane you will find the many attractions of the he Brisbane Hinterland. The lush tree filled hills of the DAguilar Range make for a subtropical haven. Located just twenty minutes west of the city. The main access point is  in Brisbane forest Park at the hamlet of Mount Glorious. Other points of interest along the route are the Valley of the Lakes near Esk and just a bit further north-west to the South Burnett. Diverse crops and heritage villages are found here. The rare landscape, including stands of pine rainforest, is well-preserved in Bunya Mountains National Park. Adults and Children will love this area equally, as there are many opportunities for encounters with native wildlife.

One of the isolated sections of the Great Dividing Range is a cool moist region known as the Bunya Mountains.  Here many waterfalls, rare bunya pine and wild parrots can be seen along the easy walking trail.  This walking trail, Scenic Circuit travels from the camping facilities of Dandabah to the rainforest to Pine George lookout.  South Burnett is a rural section of Queensland which offers historic timber town tours.  The wine trails in Blackbutt and Yarraman are other points of interest here.

The Irish Clements Brothers settled in what is known as the Booubyjan Homestead. Located near Goomeri, the brothers began in 1847 with sheep and eventually cattle on this property. This homestead is open daily for touring and a glimpse at the early years of Queensland's settlers.  Brisbane Forest Park is unique to most attractions and is rare in the fact that it offers pristine waterfalls, rainforest, deep swimming pools, mountain streams, forests and trees.  The small settlement of Mt. Glorious is home to many walking trails and just 10km further is Wivenhoe lookout with views of Lake Wivenhoe.

The Walkabout Creek Wildlife Centre in Brisbane Forest Park features a freshwater creek environment populated with water dragons, frogs, platypuses, pythons and fish. The Australian Woolshed, just past Samford re-creates life on sheep station .Shearing demonstrations, ram shows and cattle-dog demonstrations are staged daily, while native animals roam freely around the property.

Daisy Hill State Forest is a pocket of eucalypt forest and acacia scrub 25 kilometers south of Brisbane where visitors can scan the canopy for koalas from a treetop tower. The Daisy Hill Koala Center in the central picnic area has information about koalas and their habitats.
